It's Carlton at the MCG to kick off 2027, but not on a Thursday night. Plus four new contracts, a four-point thriller on the Gold Coast and the AFLW season finale this Saturday.
2027 Fixture: Carlton First Up
Mark the calendar: Richmond opens 2027 against Carlton at the MCG on
Saturday 20 March, 12.35pm. It's a break from tradition, with the clash played on a Thursday night since 2008. The club says it's a one-year change due to MCG availability, and CEO Shane Dunne expects it back in the Thursday night slot the year after.

What a fight on a soaked People First Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tigers turned a slow start into an 11-point half-time lead with a four-goal burst from Miller, Shevlin, Scott and co-captain Seymour. Gold Coast hit back with four goals in the third, but late goals to Shevlin and Greiser gave us a real chance. In the final minutes the Suns kept rushing behinds to hang on. Heartbreaking, but plenty to like.

Veteran forward
Tom Lynch, heading into his 17th AFL season, has singled out second-year defender
Sam Grlj for his off-season work. "He is looking exciting," Lynch says. Lynch also says his job now is helping the young forwards get as good as they can, as quickly as they can. Pre-season for the first-to-fourth-year players starts in early November.
